About This Role
We are looking for a Chief of Staff to work closely with our CEO and leadership team, driving strategic initiatives, streamlining operations, and ensuring organizational alignment. In this role, you will act as a key leader to shape and execute Modak's vision, helping to prioritize efforts that maximize impact and efficiency. Strong analytical skills, exceptional communication abilities, and a proven ability to manage cross-functional projects are critical, as is a proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a high-growth start-up environment, enjoys tackling ambiguity, and is eager to wear multiple hats.
Success requires strong organizational skills, a keen sense of urgency, and the ability to collaborate effectively with teams across functions, including product, engineering, marketing, and operations. Your primary focus will be on aligning strategic priorities with execution, making this role perfect for a candidate with a strategic mindset and a passion for operational excellence. This is a great role for people who eventually want to be a founder.
For candidates, who spend at least 18 months at Modak, the leadership will support the person’s candidature to a top US MBA program.
What You’ll Be Doing
This role is central to driving clarity, alignment, and execution across the organization. You’ll operate at the intersection of strategy, operations, and leadership support. Here’s what you’ll focus on:
1. Finance and external relationships
Run the finance function: Manage financial planning, financial statements, investor relations, and accounting processes.
Vendor Management: Oversee relationships with external stakeholders, including suppliers and vendors, leading negotiations and contract reviews.
2. Strategy and operations
Strategy and roadmap: Lead strategic research and projects that provide critical inputs to the product roadmap, including monetization strategies, user insights, competitors analysis and market positioning.
Special projects in operations: Drive cross-functional projects spanning product development, growth, and communications to align teams and deliver key outcomes.
“Swiss army knife” support: Step into operational roles as needed to cover gaps and provide hands-on support, ensuring seamless operations across the organization.
People management: Collaborate with the leadership team and People team on culture management, including planning onsites events, and supporting hiring efforts.
What You’ll Bring
Experience: 2+ years of experience in a management consulting firm, investment banking, or other high-paced environment
Strategic Thinking: Proven ability to translate vision into actionable plans and drive them to completion.
Entrepreneurial Drive: Demonstrated ability to identify problems, take initiative and tackle ambiguous challenges. Ability to execute with limited resources, showcasing a hands-on and execution-oriented approach to problem-solving.
Exceptional Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and concisely.
Analytical Mindset: Comfortable analyzing data, identifying trends, and using insights to inform decisions.
Collaborative Leadership: Proven track record of working effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve ambitious goals.
Adaptability: Thrives in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities, demonstrating a flexible and solution-oriented approach.
